Like most RCCA oncologists, Dr. Park is a generalist who is prepared to handle a wide variety of cancer types. Her special interests are in breast cancer, prostate cancer, and other genitourinary malignancies, as well as skin cancer. She also works with all classic hematological disorders. Patients trust Dr. Park to help them manage thrombosis, coagulopathies (blood clotting disorders), anemia, and more.

Dr. Park guides patients through every stage of treatment, from diagnosis through rehabilitation and beyond. When doing so, she prioritizes the most cutting-edge care options available. Some of the treatments provided at RCCA include:

  • Chemotherapy: Strong drugs attack fast-growing cells. Because cancer cells reproduce very quickly, they are killed by the drug.
  • Targeted therapy: Drugs target cells with certain proteins that are found only on cancer cells, effectively killing cancer without damaging normal cells.
  • Immunotherapy: The patient’s own immune cells are modified with instructions to identify and attack cancer, empowering the patient’s immune system.
  • Hormone therapy: Reducing hormone production starves breast or prostate cancer cells of the food they use to grow.

About Dr. Krystal Park

Dr. Park chose a career in medicine after caring for both of her grandparents through serious illnesses. She recalls the profound impact that compassionate medical professionals had on her grandparents’ well-being, particularly the oncologist who worked with her grandfather. This inspired her to pursue a career in hematology and oncology. “I chose this field,” says Dr. Park, “because I want to help others through their most vulnerable moments, just as my family was helped.”

Dr. Park believes in the power of compassion and gentle guidance to make a difference in her patients’ lives. Driven by this belief, she approaches patient care with a focus on the individual. She strives to understand each patient’s unique needs and values to deliver the care that they need.

This model is centered on open communication. “My goal is to guide patients through their health journey in a way that respects their autonomy,” she says. This means educating patients on their diagnosis and treatment options while simultaneously listening to what they have to say about their hopes, goals, and fears. This helps her build a trusting relationship. “I aim to provide both expert treatment and personalized care,” she adds.

To Dr. Park, the most rewarding part about working in hematology and oncology is the privilege of helping patients when they are at their most vulnerable. After caring for her own grandparents, she understands how frightening a cancer diagnosis can be and how meaningful the patient-physician relationship can be during this time. The trust that emerges is a true privilege to take part in.
