About Kenneth D. Nahum, DO, FACP

Dr. Nahum chose oncology because he found it exciting. The field of cancer care is constantly moving and changing, uncovering new frontiers every day. Advances in targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and personalized medicine are transforming how physicians approach a cancer diagnosis, creating options where there were previously none. Cancers that were previously incurable can now be treated effectively, and patient prognoses are better than ever.

“Every day I learn something new,” says Dr. Nahum, “with new hope for the future.”

He also enjoys the family practice aspect of oncology. Cancer care requires treating the whole patient, not only a diagnosis. This requires building deep relationships with patients and their loved ones to best understand their needs. To Dr. Nahum, these relationships make his field uniquely rewarding. Friendships can last for years, even after bringing a patient to remission. “The patients become my family members,” he adds.

Dr. Nahum’s approach to care is centered on this relationship-building. He dedicates all the time possible to make patients comfortable. Education is an important part of this. A cancer diagnosis is overwhelming. By helping patients understand their diagnosis, therapeutic options, and prognosis, he helps them get involved with their care. Learning about up-to-date treatments can provide hope, helping patients approach treatment with greater confidence.

Dr. Nahum is not the only teacher in these relationships. Patients teach him valuable lessons in return. “They exhibit strength, courage, and everlasting hope,” he says.
