Professional Background & Academic Achievements
Dr. Chatiwala has worked in oncology for over 16 years. During this time, she has delivered a high level of care that was acknowledged by multiple medical publications. She has earned multiple awards and accolades, including the following:
Dr. Chatiwala is also a member of multiple medical organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), and the American Medical Association (AMA). These memberships put her in contact with other knowledgeable professionals in the medical community, giving her access to advanced resources and collaboration opportunities when performing research or treating patients.
Dr. Chatiwala has 16-plus years of experience in oncology and hematology. She has treated patients in Sussex County, NJ, for over ten years, and is actively involved in the staff of multiple local hospitals and in cancer research studies.
She initially was drawn to medicine as an opportunity to combine her scientific interest with her desire to make a difference. Oncology and hematology stood out during her initial medical school years. Cancer treatment involves “guiding people through one of the most challenging periods of their lives,” says Dr. Chatiwala, resulting in deep, trusting relationships between physicians, patients, and families. These relationships, to her, are what make oncology special.
Her approach to patient care highlights this aspect. “My approach is centered on compassion, communication, and collaboration,” she says. She listens to her patients, striving to understand their individual goals and values, in order to offer care that is highly personalized.
Dr. Chatiwala combines this patient-centered approach with evidence-based therapies. She prioritizes the latest innovations in cancer care to help her patients achieve the best possible outcomes, whether the goal is a cure or whether it is long-term survival and symptom management.
When it comes to evidence-based therapies, now is an exciting time. Advances in molecular diagnostics let oncologists learn more about a cancer tumor, enabling them to provide treatments like immunotherapy and targeted therapies that are tailored to a patient’s unique case. “We are seeing better outcomes and offering more hope than ever before,” says Dr. Chatiwala, “and I am grateful every day for the opportunity to bring these innovations to the patients I care for.”
Dr. Chatiwala urges newly diagnosed patients to remember that they are not alone. “We are a team,” she says, from initial diagnosis through treatment, remission, and beyond. “I will be with them every step of the way.”
Dr. Chatiwala treats patients at RCCA in Sparta, NJ.
