Fatima Fayyaz, MD, FACP, is a medical oncologist and hematologist who is part of the Regional Cancer Care Associates (RCCA) team in Cape May Court House and Marmora, New Jersey. She has experience in treating a wide variety of cancer types and both benign and malignant hematology conditions. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she believes in improving cancer care accessibility for patients of all backgrounds. Patients can make an appointment with Dr. Fayyaz by contacting RCCA today.
Like many RCCA oncologists, Dr. Fayyaz does not specialize in any one area of cancer treatment. Instead, her expertise extends to cover a wide range of cancer types. Diagnoses commonly treated at Dr. Fayyaz’s locations include:
She also commonly treats a variety of malignant blood disorders, including lymphomas, myelomas, and leukemia, in addition to a full range of benign blood conditions.
Dr. Fayyaz’s treatment approach focuses on accessibility. She has published peer-reviewed articles on the disparities in cancer care to improve awareness of the factors that might impede a patient’s access to care. Her goal is to make high-quality treatment available and accessible in all communities. Part of this involves an emphasis on patient education. Her background in teaching helps her explain things in a way patients can understand, helping them feel more confident about their care options.
Dr. Fayyaz graduated from medical school with honors for excellence in Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology. While completing her residency, she also participated in a competitive Quality Improvement project to increase cervical cancer screening rates at an underserved clinic. This project earned first place. She has presented her research at various national and international conferences and has been published in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, JCO-Oncology Practice, Blood, Leukemia, and Lymphoma.
In addition to her academic awards, Dr. Fayyaz is also a member of multiple medical organizations. Her past and current memberships include:
These memberships connect her with national and international networks of oncologists and medical researchers. By coordinating their efforts, these experts work to push their field forward and improve the standards of cancer care for current and future patients.

Dr. Fayyaz’s mother was a hematologist. She grew up reviewing blood smears under microscopes and learning about medicine. When her mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness, she was still deciding what to do with her life. “I decided to pursue her field,” says Dr. Fayyaz, “to honor her contributions to science and hematology.”
The loss of her mother gives Dr. Fayyaz a unique understanding of her patients’ challenges. “Cancer is a humbling disease,” she says, “both for patients and physicians. I am not going to help ‘beat it’ or ‘win.’ This is not a war. We will play the cards we have been dealt.”
Instead of viewing cancer care as a conflict, Dr. Fayyaz focuses on maintaining the dignity of her patients. This may mean using the latest innovative treatments to eliminate cancer, allowing the patient to return to normal life without illness. It may also mean helping patients live life to the fullest while managing a long-term condition. Even with terminal diagnoses, Dr. Fayyaz believes the patient’s comfort and well-being are paramount.
Dr. Fayyaz also believes in educating her patients. With a background in teaching, she can explain complex medical topics in a way that patients can comprehend. “There is nothing scarier than not knowing what is happening,” she adds. “Patients feel better after learning about the nuances and intricacies of their care.” For this reason, she works hard to make sure everybody she treats can understand why she does what she does.
The focus on patient dignity and education forms the basis for long-term relationships. To Dr. Fayyaz, these relationships are what make oncology rewarding. “It is truly humbling,” she says, to become close to patients as she guides them through treatment.
Patients have their own lessons for Dr. Fayyaz in return. In her words: “My patients have taught me how not to fear death and the unknown, to stay positive despite what life throws at you, and to face challenges with resilience.”
