Lorelei Fen grew up in a family of healthcare providers, including doctors and nurses. “I was inspired early on,” she says, noting her role models’ compassion and commitment to service. These qualities sparked Lorelei’s own passion for healthcare and, ultimately, led her to a career in nursing.
Her journey in oncology began when she was a young nurse. She was assigned to the Medical-Surgical floor at Chilton Hospital, which would later be rededicated as the hospital’s oncology unit. This is where she received her initial oncology training, and the experience would become the turning point in her professional path. “I developed a deep connection to the field,” Lorelei adds. “Since then, oncology has remained my lifelong focus.”
“Cancer treatment can be physically and emotionally challenging,” Lorelei says regarding her philosophy of care. “My goal is to make that journey more manageable.” To this end, her approach is centered on “compassion, evidence-based practice, and a strong commitment to improving each patient’s quality of life.”
Lorelei expresses this commitment by helping patients manage their side effects from chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Her efforts help them maintain a higher quality of life throughout treatment, enhancing their experience.
Her commitment has also inspired Lorelei to pursue her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. While she is already equipped to provide advanced care, the DNP will take her skills and qualifications to the next level. A doctorate provides the background to translate research into real-world innovations and improve patient outcomes, helping her contribute meaningfully to the field of oncology. “I strive to continually advance oncology care,” says Lorelei, “and improve outcomes for every patient entrusted to our care.”
Lorelei Fen provides care at 18 Newark-Pompton Turnpike, Riverdale, NJ 07457.
