About Stephen G. Wallace, MD
Dr. Wallace joined the oncology field because he believes there is nothing more important than a person’s health and well-being. “I enjoy taking responsibility in matters of a serious nature,” he says. This is also what he finds most rewarding in oncology care. Whether he is guiding a patient’s treatment for the best chance of a cure or aiding with difficult decision-making when a cure is not possible, he has the opportunity to help people through an incredibly stressful time.
“Most people just want someone to be honest with them,” Dr. Wallace adds. He understands that a cancer diagnosis is often confusing or overwhelming. What patients need, just as much as treatment, is a physician who acknowledges their concerns and who answers questions honestly. Dr. Wallace works with patients to understand their needs and achieve their unique goals.
Now is an exciting time to practice medical oncology. “There have been incredible advances in the available treatments,” says Dr. Wallace, “which have resulted in dramatic improvements in patient outcomes.” There are now cures for diagnoses that, historically, were uncurable. Even for patients who still cannot be cured, better treatments often lead to longer survival and a higher quality of life.
