About Richard Scher, DO

Dr. Scher has been practicing in the fields of hematology and oncology for over three decades. During this time, he has found his work deeply rewarding. “It is an opportunity to make a profound impact on patients’ lives,” he states. He enjoys working to improve patients’ lives through effective care, helping them overcome or manage disease.

“My goal,” says Dr. Scher, “is to partner with a patient and family.” His approach to care is patient-centered. He works with each individual to help them understand their diagnosis and plan the most appropriate treatment. While doing so, he makes efforts to minimize fear and foster hope.

Hope, to him, is important to remember while undergoing cancer treatment. “With innovative therapies evolving constantly,” he says, “we are now providing treatments… that did not even exist a year ago.” These treatments are highly effective and often come with minimal side effects. Some of them introduce cures for diagnoses that were previously uncurable. Even when a cure is not possible, new advances create better prognoses and improved quality of life.

Finally, he states, “This is a group effort.” Cancer care is not an individual journey; instead, it is a collaboration between patients, physicians, and the compassionate staff at RCCA, who are always available to help with cancer care. You are not alone.
