Like many other oncology practitioners at RCCA, Melanie Parsell has general expertise in treating many cancer types. She commonly works with breast cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, and prostate cancer, as well as blood malignancies. She also works with non-malignant hematological conditions and autoimmune diseases, such as iron-deficiency anemia, multiple sclerosis, ulcerative colitis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and more.
As a nurse practitioner, Melanie’s role is focused on patient management. She performs complete assessments, coordinates care with other members of the multidisciplinary team, educates patients about their diagnoses and treatment options, and helps them manage side effects from treatment. At every stage, she aims to provide the highest quality of life for her patients.
Melanie Parsell is committed to delivering the highest level of care for her patients. To accomplish this goal, she is a member of the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO). This is an international organization that serves advanced practitioners in oncology, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, pharmacists, and more. These professionals gain access to medical journals, conferences, continued education, and other resources that they can use to enhance their practice, helping them secure the best possible outcomes for their patients.

Melanie Parsell became interested in nursing early in life. Her middle school passion for biology led to a deeper curiosity about human physiology. This curiosity naturally guided her toward healthcare as a career that would reward her interests.
“I began my nursing career in an inpatient oncology unit,” Melanie continues. “I had the opportunity to work alongside experienced oncology nurses who fostered a supportive and collaborative learning environment.” This emphasis on collaboration left an impression on Melanie. It reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork, providing a strong clinical foundation that she would carry forward into her career as a nurse.
To Melanie, the most meaningful part of her work is patient care. “My patients often seek honesty, compassion, and consistent support,” she says. “I strive to provide care that reflects these needs.” Her commitment leads to strong patient-practitioner relationships. She is proud to support patients through the hard times and celebrate their victories alongside them.
She is also routinely impressed by them. “I am inspired by the resilience, determination, and strength demonstrated by this patient population,” says Melanie.
Her work has increased her understanding and appreciation for the uncertainty of healthcare. While positive outcomes are becoming more common with each new advance in oncology, they are never guaranteed. To Melanie, this reinforces the importance of adaptability and presence. “It makes every patient interaction meaningful,” she says. “I am truly grateful to be part of this practice.”
