Getting a new cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming. Fortunately, patients at RCCA do not have to make this journey alone. “We will guide them through it,” says Joelle Rubin. “We know how scary it can be to be told you have cancer.” The RCCA team is there to provide the best care while supporting patients through their treatment journey. In addition to treatment, RCCA also offers education, counseling, financial advocacy, and other services to make this difficult time a little bit easier.

“At HUMC and JTCC,” adds Joelle, “we are a team dedicated to making patients feel comfortable.” Nurse practitioners work closely with oncologists, hematologists, and other healthcare professionals to make sure that every patient’s needs are met.

This commitment goes further when combined with RCCA’s access to advanced treatment modalities. “We have so many clinical trials available,” she says, including treatments for both new diagnoses and relapses. These drugs offer greater efficacy than ever before, and Joelle is excited to see all the benefits they provide for patients.

She is equally excited to be part of making this transformation possible. To her, the most rewarding aspect of oncology care is watching patients get better. RCCA stays with patients at every step of the journey, from diagnosis through treatment and into long-term recovery. As a result, Joelle has the opportunity to see patients years after their diagnosis and remission. She finds it inspiring to see firsthand how she has helped make a difference.

In return, patients have plenty to teach their care team. “Take one day at a time,” Joelle says when asked about the lessons her patients provide. Don’t be anxious about the future. Instead, focus on celebrating each milestone as it comes.
