Striking Out Cancer: HOSCC Oncologist Hannah Yamin, DO, Tosses Opening Pitch at Bourne Braves Game

Hannah Yamin, DO, a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist practicing with Hematology Oncology Specialists of Cape Cod (HOSCC) in North Falmouth, MA, threw out the opening pitch in the July 26, 2025, Cape Cod Baseball League contest between the Bourne Braves and visiting Cotuit Kettleers.

Several St. John Paul II School volunteers from Treats for Treatment, a student-led club dedicated to providing care packages to cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy to lift spirits and offer comfort, joined Dr. Yamin and her HOSCC colleagues at the game. In the fourth inning, attendees raised their Stand Up to Cancer® signs in unison to “root, root, root” not for the home team but for people facing cancer and the clinicians and researchers working to give those patients hope, care, and cures.

“It was both a great honor and great fun to throw out the first pitch,” says Dr. Yamin, who – reliable sources report – hurled a four-seam fastball straight toward the strike zone. She adds, “Baseball is an intrinsic part of summer on the Cape. I’m proud that since my colleague Dr. Victor Aviles founded HOSCC in 2006, our practice also has been woven into the fabric of the community, providing comprehensive, compassionate care to thousands of residents throughout the seasons and across the years.”
