About Seth H. Berk, MD

Dr. Berk joined the medical field out of a natural curiosity. Medicine, especially hematology and oncology, is demanding and constantly evolving. It requires intellect and interest to stay up to date with the latest breakthroughs in cancer care.

“You also have to be both committed and effective in your ability to communicate clearly,” Dr. Berk adds. A cancer diagnosis is often overwhelming to patients who have likely never experienced the process. Clear, compassionate communication is essential to teach patients about their diagnoses, treatment options, and expected outcomes.

Dr. Berk understands this need and strives to interact with patients as openly as possible. He explains the diagnosis, treatment options, and reasoning for recommending any approach to help patients find peace of mind.

He also believes that medicine is not one-size-fits-all. No two cancer diagnoses are alike, and all require a unique approach to treat effectively. In addition, “each person carries with them their own goals, limitations, and strengths,” says Dr. Berk. It is his job to meet patients where they are. He works with individuals and their families to understand their goals and concerns. This helps them achieve what they are looking for in treatment and the patient-physician relationship.

When preparing for cancer treatment, Dr. Berk urges patients to remember that “there is a path forward.” Though a cancer diagnosis might be frightening, he will work with you to help you understand the underlying diagnosis, the goals of therapy, and the reasons for his chosen treatment approach. Patient needs are put front and center. This is not a journey anybody must take alone. Rather, it is one that he and the patient embark on together.
