While chemotherapy is one of the more common forms of infusion therapy, many medications can be administered intravenously.\nHow Does Chemotherapy Work?\nChemotherapy can help kill existing cancer cells, stop cancer from spreading, and shrink cancerous tumors before or after surgery. Some patients with cancer receive chemotherapy as a standalone treatment, while others receive chemotherapy in combination with treatments such as surgery and radiation. Depending on the type of chemotherapy prescribed, patients can receive this medication via infusion, injection, or in pill form.\nBecause chemotherapy drugs travel throughout a patient\u2019s body and attack fast-growing cells, they can also damage non-cancerous cells that grow quickly, such as hair follicles. This is why many patients who undergo chemotherapy experience hair loss. Patients may also have fatigue after treatment.\nHow Does Immunotherapy Work?\nImmunotherapy is another type of cancer treatment that can be given as an infusion. Immunotherapy drugs enhance the patient\u2019s immune system so that it is better able to fight cancer. For example, some patients with cancer receive infused treatments of monoclonal antibodies, proteins that bind to cancer cells and encourage the immune system to attack those malignant cells. Immune system modulators are another type of immunotherapy. These treatments change the way the immune system responds to cancer cells, such as boosting certain kinds of white blood cells.\nAccording to the American Cancer Society, immunotherapy treatments typically have fewer side effects than chemotherapy. However, some patients who receive immunotherapy experience fever, chills, nausea, headaches, and other symptoms."}],"name":"<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4749 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionalcancercare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Healthcare-worker-preparing-for-infusion-therapy-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Healthcare Worker Preparing An Infusion Treatment\" width=\"550\" height=\"200\">What Is Infusion Therapy?"}]}],"description":"We provide infusion therapy for patients throughout New Jersey and Connecticut.
