Valerie Freeman

Paterson, NJ resident
Treated for triple negative breast cancer by RCCA’s Stanley Waintraub, MD, at the John Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC) at Hackensack University Medical Center

After undergoing lumpectomy at another area hospital, Valerie Freeman turned to the John Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC) at Hackensack University Medical Center because she had been very impressed with the way that the RCCA doctors, the nurses, and others there had cared for her mother. Further, she adds that in battling tripe-negative breast cancer, she wanted access to the medical expertise, comprehensive services, and wide-ranging clinical trials offered by JTCC and RCCA, one of the largest oncology physician networks in the United States.

“They didn’t make me feel like a patient. They knew me – Val. They knew my likes and dislikes. When I go for follow-up visits, I still get a sick feeling in my stomach when I’m outside the center, because it brings back memories of everything I had to go through, but that goes away the minute I’m inside and seeing all the people who know me and took care of me.”

Vincent Stasio

Manasquan, NJ resident
Treated for lung cancer by RCCA’s Bhavesh Balar, MD at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, NJ

“By the grace of God I got connected with Dr. Balar,” Vincent Stasio says, explaining that when the oncologist did not agree with the initial findings of another physician, Dr. Balar undertook his own in-depth assessment and consulted another expert at Johns Hopkins Medicine. It was determined that the cancer originated in the lung, not the colon, which had important ramifications for Stasio’s treatment.

“I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Balar,” Stasio says. “He is incredibly conscientious and always open to dialogue. He truly has the best interests of his patients in mind.”

Chris Kelly

Franklin Township, NJ resident
Treated for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma by RCCA’s Edward J. Licitra, MD, PhD at RCCA’s East Brunswick, NJ location

“They have been nothing short of phenomenal,” Chris Kelly says of the nurses, technicians, and other health care professionals he has encountered at RCCA’s East Brunswick location. “They have made a tough experience much better than it otherwise would be.”

“They not only know me, they’ve come to know all of my family and friends, and have made them all feel welcome.”

Sadra Hampton, PhD

Englewood, NJ resident
Treated for triple negative breast cancer by RCCA’s Stanley Waintraub, MD, at the John Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC) at Hackensack University Medical Center

Dr. Hampton chose to receive care at the John Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC) of Hackensack University Medical Center in part because, “I grew up in Hackensack, I delivered my daughter at Hackensack University Medical Center, and I was very familiar with and confident in the care I would receive there.” Another factor was the cutting-edge treatment provided at JTCC by Regional Cancer Care Associates (RCCA) oncologists such as Stanley Waintraub, MD, JTCC’s Co-Chief of Breast Oncology and Dr. Hampton’s physician.

For Dr. Hampton, Dr. Waintraub’s skill and style were just what the patient ordered. “I loved that he was so straightforward about what we were going to do to help me beat cancer. I’m a ‘shoot from the hip’ type of person myself, so to have someone who could talk to me about what I was facing without sugar coating it, while also being compassionate, was amazing,” says Dr. Hampton, who has high marks not only for Dr. Waintraub but for the entire staff at JTCC.

“Perfect” seems like a strange word to use for this type of experience, but that’s almost what it was in terms of the care I received, not only medically, but from the way everyone took the time to care for me as a person,” she says.

Making It Easy to Access the Most Advanced, Compassionate Cancer Care

At Regional Cancer Care Associates in New Jersey, Maryland and Connecticut, you will receive cancer treatment from physicians and clinical staff who dedicate themselves to your needs. And , a big, important part of our commitment to you and your family is making it as easy as possible for you to get and benefit from state-of-the-art cancer care. The other part is delivering you this care with the compassion, support and efficiency you and your family deserve.

31 convenient locations to serve you across NJ, MD and CT.
If you have cancer and live in New Jersey, Maryland or Connecticut, you don’t need to travel out of town to get the state-of-the-art treatments and top-quality care you need to fight cancer effectively. RCCA has 31 different locations across these three states, each providing the most experienced and advanced care… with an uncommonly local, individualized and compassionate approach. This means you will enjoy more responsive and nimble cancer care providers. And our doctors can see you at any of the many different hospitals in and around your communities.

Be seen quickly, and get started sooner.
At RCCA, it is a priority to see you for your initial appointment as soon as possible when you are newly diagnosed with cancer. Usually, this is within just two days. If you are an existing patient, you are accommodated as as soon as possible, and typically you are seen much sooner than at other cancer-treatment facilities. While we always recommend you see your own primary care physician, if you have urgent needs and your doctor isn’t available to see you, you may see one of our medical professionals.

Here are some of the other ways RCCA makes your cancer care more accessible:

We believe in “speaking your language.”
Offices conveniently located to you and getting you in for an appointment quickly are not all there is to accessible care. Communication with you is, of course, centrally important for your cancer care. All your care team — doctors, patient, nursing staff, caregivers — must communicate… and then engage with you and your family. We strive to provide information in terms you will understand, not just “doctor-speak.”

At the same time, chances are good that we really do speak your language, because we are as diverse as the communities we serve and the people we care for. If we don’t have personnel to assist your communication, RCCA provides free language services to people whose primary language is not English, such as:

  • Qualified interpreters
  • Information written in other languages

These resources can be accessed by calling (844) 346-7222 or by visiting www.languageassistance@regionalcancercare.org. Here are the many different languages we can assist with:
